I purchased a new gimbal bearing for my alpha one gen one mercruiser 170 and the bearing has no grease hole. Is this a newer design and permanently sealed? Is it ok to use?
I purchased a new gimbal bearing for my alpha one gen one Mercruiser 170 and the bearing has no grease hole. Is this a newer design and permanently sealed?
Yes. In the box with the new bearing should have been a small stainless steel plug. Remove the old grease fitting from the starboard side of the gimbal housing and screw that plug in. It's to stop someone trying to pump grease into a bearing not designed for it.
