alpha one trim cylinder question

After replacing sterndrive, the ram cylinder don't line up. I got one side on, but the other is about an inch more extended. Before I run the trim pump to try and align the two, I want to make sure this is the way you align the cylinders or is there a trick?

Run the pump, that's the trick.

Ayuh,..... If the rams are at different points of extension,......

I hook up the longest 1st,.....
It's much easier to push the drive down, causin' the short ram to get longer, than it is to lift the drive to make the longer ram, shorter,.....
