Sorry I upset things the speedo question

There is no issue with asking more questions, we all just need to know what your working on (4.3 OMC) and most importantly, we need to be able to understand what the issues are.

Break your comments/questions up some. When all statements run together with all other statements its hard to figure out what is being asked. Look at how the others have re-worded your comments, they are more clearly understood.

When the motor starts to bog the next time, open the fuel filler cap

Did you try (as GA mentioned) removing the gas cap when it would not idle and had no power?

Yes you know the boat is 30 years old it looks like the original fuel pump it looks like all the fuel lines been replaced from the tank to the motor and it looks like original coil I did put cap and rotor on it but I did not put new points in it. so I’m thinking instead of just checking out stuff just replace it but I heard I can put an automotive coil in it I have to price. And I don’t know about changing the points over to the electronics ignition I might not do that right now. But what really gets me is how great it runs for the first half hour

You can check fuel pump pressure, it should be 3 to 7 psi.
Its almost never the coil and yes you can use automotive coil

Need to find out what is missing, does fuel squirt down the carb when the throttle is pumped?
Pull the coil wires and see if your getting spark?

Yeah if you feel squirts real good on the carb and it always starts right up it’s never failed to start right up it just won’t idle when it’s hot we were done Ohio River Sunday and we were waiting to put it on the trailer and I go to give it throttle and I got no power in a felt like it wasn’t even going into gear Yeah feel squirts real good on the carb and it always starts right up it’s never failed to start right up it just won’t idle when it’s hot we were done Ohio River Sunday and we were waiting to put it on the trailer and I go to give it throttle and I got no power in a felt like it wasn’t even going into gear so we sat there for about 10 minutes then I started it and it ran perfect again it always started right up yeah I know it’s end of the season here in Northeast Ohio but I don’t need this problem need to get it fixed before I winterize it all the local shops are backed up because there are winterizing boats and I’ve worked on him for years but this one’s got me puzzled , I don’t have a fuel pump tester for pressure but I did put a hose on it and I did start it and I put it in a jar then the whole hose basically blew out of the jar and filled in a matter of couple seconds yes it was 5 foot hose and it was in back of the boat on the outside For 1988 boat it’s very clean and yes the guy that sold to me said he never had a problem with it of course I believed him

You may have 2 issues, you do feel fuel squirt in but it won't idle until it cools down.
May need fuel pump and a carb clean and adjust, but I would get back into the carb first

Your first mistake was listening to the guy who sold this boat to you. The 2nd one was not taking it out for a sea trial.
