Hi guys,

I have a 1973 16' Wriedt Stinger outboard boat. Currently it has a '68 Evinrude 55hp outboard that runs well but is a little low on power for my liking. The use this boat on a river primarily for wakeboarding and pulling tubes. I recently acquired a '92 Johnson 90hp V4 in good condition and I'm wondering if its a good swap for this boat. The boat has no max hp rating tag, it also sits very low in the water already so more weight on the back worries me a bit. Regardless of whether I swap motors or not I know the transom will need to be rebuilt at a minimum. Thanks for the help.

This might be a dumb question but is that 105hp at the flywheel or the prop? Correct me if I'm wrong but the late 70's is when they rated at the prop so if in '74 they recommended 105hp it would have been at the flywheel right? Or does that even matter in this case?

that doesnt matter to the LEO's

However on a boat that is 46 years old, is your transom good enough to re-power?

On this site for your boat it is rated the way it was when it was made.

The transom is currently peeling on the inside so I had planned on fixing that anyway but especially in the case of a repower where the engine weighs 150lbs more than the motor hanging on it right now.
