I'm having a major issue trying to find out the exact model of this mercruiser... I've got a plate that says "Mercruiser Power Trim. Serial Number 5989946". When I enter this into several websites, it returns no matches. I'm attaching several pictures to get some help. I need to replace some bellows and a shift cable but cant order parts. Trying to get a transom repair kit similar to this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-Mercru...-30-803097T1/253812570712?hash=item3b18687a58

That serial number is the transom assembly number, not the drive number .The drive number is on the left side of the drive, under the decal.

The drive shaft housing (upper) is an MC1, the gear housing (lower) could be an R, MR or Alpha One. Only separating the drive will tell...

The transom assembly is a late MC1. The parts are mostly the same as R, MR and Alpha One.

BTW, that is the right kit for your transom, but you could change out the bell housing gasket for the right one (27-64818Q4)... The one in the kit will work, but it's not the 'right' one.

I believe this is the kit I should be buying while its all taken apart: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercruiser-...torefresh=true

I'm an auto mechanic jumping in on this. Is there anything else I should be worried about replacing or inspecting while I have it torn down this far?

Definitely, definitely NOT! That is for a Gen II (1991 to current), and you have an MC1 (1967-1982)....

Maybe this is what I need: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercruiser-...3/262983540222

Thank you for your help

That's the right kit....

Will that cable fit pre alpha?

Which 'pre-alpha'? (there were about 15 drives made before the Alpha One)
