I hope this post is in the right forum topic. I replaced the impeller on my Alpha One Gen 2 outdrive last year. Since then I ran about 15 hours on the boat in fresh water only. Should I replace it this year for annual maintenance or the gear lube change would do? Thank you.

I wouldn't after only 15 hrs. "Annual" can mean 50-100 hrs for some boats. My boat gets very low use each year, <10 hrs. I don't change my impeller unless I've split the drive for some other issue, like a seal kit.

If engine was operating at proper temp no. Typically I see my idle temp creep up 5-10 degrees then change it.

Alpha One Gen II drives have a 3-year/300 hour service interval.

thank you buddy, that means all I need to do this year is change the engine oil :)
Also I was lucky, my wife got a job in Ace hardware so with her discount I managed to buy gear lube for a little over $4 for 2 quarts!

Don't think I'd be putting $2/litre oil in my drive! You save a few dollars ($10 at most) at the risk of THOU$AND$ of dollars worth of damage. That's not good economics my friend!

Things I don't go cheap on. Engine and drive oil, impellers, manifolds and elbows. Fuel. Oil and fuel filters. Basically, anything that risks more damage than the savings.

This lube oil is a standard penzoil gear lube at regular price of $9.99, I was lucky my wife got an employee discount. At first I though they forgot to ring me for the second quart. But if you think it is not a good gear lube, ill get another one quick silver or other marine brands. This one says marine gear lube for outdrives...

Penzoil is a good brand, and if it has the marine additives (anti-emulsifiers, etc) then it should be ok. I am quite surprised you get it that cheap...

So was I, when I looked at the recipe and saw 4.99 for 2 quarts I first thought it was a mistake by the cashier, he forgot to ring for the second quart. But when I looked closer it was both for under $5. Guess my wife has a great workers discount there.
