Tahoe q6 alarm connection

I recently bought a 2006 Tahoe Q6. It is in great shape and only needed minor stuff done. Took it out for the first time this past weeks and worked great. As I’m working through the little issues I noticed there isn’t an alarm sounding during startup . I found the alarm “box” under the dash and it had a purple wire coming out it with a ring type connector, but it isn’t hooked to anything. Clearly they unhooked it at some point but i don’t see an obvious spot to reconnect it. When I turn the key on and touch the purple wire to any of the hot wires on nearby gauges the alarm sounds until I turn the key off or take the wire away from the gauge hot. Before I just connected it to one of those hot posts, Can someone tell me where the alarm is connected under the dash? Or maybe a schematic of the electrical system?

Thanks

The alarm is for the motor and just lives under the dash. Need to know what is powering the boat - So what motor?

Once we know what motor, this will be moved to the proper section

It’s a mercruiser 4.3 inboard/outboard. I understand it goes to the engine and the tan wire leaves the alarm and goes into the wiring harness and back to the engine.

I need to know specifically where the hot wire attaches under the dash.

Moved to Mercruiser.

Trust me on this - You will get the answer here instead of the Tahoe section with very little activity.

Ayuh,..... The purple wire needs to be powered, Only when the key is in the "On" position,.......

So,..... 'bout any purple wire under the dash,.....

Chris, It isn't an MPI and I think it is just a traditional Carb, not a TKS. SN - OW439827

Bondo, thanks, i will attach it to one of the other purple wires on a nearby gauge. Thanks

That's your transom assembly serial number, not the engine...

And it puts is around 2006, which would be a TKS carb, unless someone has put an old carb on...

Does the carb engine have a beep or buzzer sound when ignition is turned on ? I presumed they didn’t after a friends 3.0 tks didn’t. Thought it was just MPI. Likely wrong, sounds like now.

The 3 litre engines don't have an electronics box (ECU or Thunderbolt-V) that would cause a beep, but they do have an oil pressure switch. You should be getting a continuous buzz when the key is ON, until the engine is running and oil pressure is up.

If you're not getting the buzz, troubleshoot the alarm circuit. (power to the buzzer, the buzzer, wiring to and on the engine, oil pressure switch)

Chris, That is the SN that is on the title.. The Carb Flame restrictor has a SN that is OW351937. The transom SN is 1A485376. The drive SN is OW815638 and it is a 4.3 not a 3.0. I just replaced the Temp sending unit as the gauge wasn't working, and the other side of the thermostat housing has a temp sensor with a blade connector that I believed connected to the alarm for overheating.

It has a continuous beep when i turn the key on (and the purple wire is touching another "live" purple wire. I have connected it to one of the other purple wires going to a dash gauge as BONDO suggested and will try it out next time I put it in the water (hopefully tomorrow) to see how long it stays on.

0W351937 = 4.3L (TKS)
1A485376 = Alpha transom (supplied without engine or drive)
0W815638 = Alpha One Gen II drive (1.81:1)

So, I suspect that something happened to the original transom assembly and it was replaced.

Sorry about the 3 litre thing. Someone said something about a 3 litre and I just carried on from that. (To the person who did mention the 3 litre, 2 very different engines, with completely different electrical systems)....

The continuous buzz is due to the engine oil pressure being too low (engine not running =0) so the oil pressure alarm switch is closed, and the alarm buzzing, which is completely correct. It should stop when the oil pressure is above 4psi...
