I’m in the “easy” process of tear down to replace the bellows and gimbal bearing on Alpha one Gen II.
Is there a trick to removing the gear oil tube from the bell housing? I’ve removed the clamp but am unable to remove the tube (worried about pulling too hard and breaking something)
Thanks

I cut the hose about the middle and add a splice. The last thing you want to do is break the plastic barb end at the transom. The barb in the gimbal housing is brass so your safe there

I like that idea. Thanks!

i guess there isn’t too much pressure on that line. Are zip ties good enough for clamping the splice?

(I just hope i haven’t cracked the barb on the transom, with all the messing around I’ve done!!)

Zip ties are fine. Very low pressure. Cut out just enough of the tube to restore the original length. Cut the ends of the ties close. Too long and it may bind in the tight space under the bell hsg. Too short and it could pull apart.

I am new to iboats but maybe somebody can help..
I have a 1996 Mercruiser 5.0 alpha 1 Gen. 2.
My transom went last year and I had to have fiberglass work done and a new mercruiser transom put in.
I purchased a transom on ebay and handed to the marina.
The transom was in great condtion but after the marina put it in they told me the gear lube hole was sealed but no big deal so they truned off the low oil outdrive alarm.
I d ran the boat last year with no problems but would like to get the overflow back in the boat to keep an eye on the outdrive oil.
I can purchase a hose and drill a small hole above the water line to run the host to the bottle inside the boat.
Thanks
Tom
