i just bought a 1972 16’ mirrocraft boat, the beam is 64”. there isn’t a capacity plate on it. according to their website the boat without motor weighs 343#. what kind of motor should i put on it?

if it helps, the maximum weight of gear and passengers would be about 500#.

the previous owner said it did well with a 9.9, but that doesn’t sound like enough, i was thinking 15 or 25.

any input is appreciated

What website?

Mirrocraft's doesnt list legacy brochures, only current models....

Which is where I suspect you got the 343lbs....

If yours is a 1972, its likely to be different the a 2019 model of the same size boat:

16ft X 64in

yeah, i can’t find the old model’s specs. the title says it’s an F 3696, i assume the newer models are close to that.

as far as to do what? i want to take it on the maumee river, which has a pretty swift current in the shallower spots. so i guess just move?

Did you not see the link I posted in post #4?

nope, i missed that, i thought it was part of your tagline. perfect, that’s it! thank you!

if the max is 35hp, would it be grossly underpowered at 9.9? i don’t need to go fast, just make it to fishing spots.

you can make it to fishing spots with a 2hp.

a 20 hp would get you on plane

One thing to think about. With your utility style boat and a tiller 25HP motor, weight distribution will be essential as the majority of weight will be in the stern.

Yes. Depending on the motor you get, you may have to adjust up or down just a bit...
