I have a 470 Stern Drive on a 4 cylinder GM engine. I just bought it used. The engine water was empty, so I filled it with water and antifreeze. The water and antifreeze immediately ran out the engine outdrive. Does that mean that the Heat exchanger is bad, and need to be replaced? Or could it be seals?

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... If you've got a 470 motor,..... you don't have a GM 4 cylinder,.....

The 470 is a beast all it own, straight from Mercruiser,.....

It's what has killed my interest in Merc's new motor of their own, the 4.5l,.....

Hi

I though

Are you sure the water did not go into the water cooled exhaust manifold?

The water from the exhaust manifold exits out the exhaust which does leave out through the prop and another set of drain holes at the bottom of the transom hardware ?

Might have the Wrong (open) riser gasket.
