Alpha One Gen 2 water pump rebuild

I just accomplished water pump rebuild on my boat and was wondering if I could run the unit on a hose to ensure water tube aligned correctly BEFORE I fill lower unit w/oil? Don't want to waste new oil if I have a problem. What is the harm? Standing by. Thanks

Well if you used the plastic guide tube and correctly inserted the copper tube into it, your good to go and fill with oil.
Do not recommend runnng a drive dry for any length of time. Justdrain it back into a clean container and reuse it

Absolutely no lubrication on gears an bearings especially the upper gear set. BT has the right idea if you have to reopen it.

you destroy your bearings and gears leading to needing a new drive

Your warnings will be heeded. I failed to recognize that the drive shaft will be spinning even when in neutral.

If the drive is still off, shine a light right under the input shaft and you can all the fittings lined up. If you put orings where they belong and everything looks good, shouldn't have a problem.
