So I have had this boat for about a month now. And have it running almost perfect, starts maybe second roll and runs like a dream. Until about an hour in....then she starts to sputter and struggle. If I stop and let it cool down a bit then it runs great for about 5 mins then does the same thing. Coil has been mentioned a few times however I have replaced it. I noticed that there is mention of an external resistor before the coil? If this has been shorted instead of replaced, could this be causing my problem? Is there a continuity test I can do on the coil to make sure its good. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

When it sputters and stops, remove the gas cap and listen if you hear air being suck in, if so your vent line is clogged

Next check fuel pressure (3-7 psi), if it starts dropping, then could be antisiphon valve or fuel pump

I will definitely look into these. So I guess I'm on a wild goose chase with the coil?

And how can I test the fuel pressure? Sorry I really have no idea how

There are thousands of coil replaced every year and only maybe one or two are actually bad.

Need to make up a Tee fitting between pump and carb. Can be attached at the carb to the end of the fuel line, or temp replace the whole fuel line with gas line and fittings for a connection.

Use a vacuum fuel pump tester (may be able to get one for rent)
