Hi everyone,

I am having a hard time figuring out the pitot tube and speedo hose routing. At the moment, my pitot tube is "clear" and it travels inside the lower unit, exits through a plastic square-ish elbow with a hose connected to it... essentially in front of the gear shift rod... just like the manual states.

Does it then just route itself in the boat to the speedo?

When I trimmed the motor all the way up, I discovered the end of that hose was slipped onto a super tiny rod for the lack of a better word. It sits just above the Primary piston (if this makes any sense). The photos show the elbow, the rod (looking up from underneath the engine) and on top where I figured a hose is supposed to go in that hole but there is nothing.

I'd like to try and use the stock configuration and not drill in to the boat so any help would be greatly appreciated.

It just goes from there into the boat via the same route as the remotes and steering. Runs along the inside of the boat to the dash. Sometimes the tube hose gets caught or jammed by the engine tilting if it’s beem routed wrongly. There is a hole in the casting of the bracket that it’s meant to go through to stop this.

Thank you for getting back to me. Perhaps that metal rod is supposed to be removed as on the other side of it is that hole in the top side of the bracket.

The hose itself seems very thick compared to other pitot tube kits I've seen. Can I route an entire length this thickness or does it usually step down somewhere?

Pitot hose alternatives?

You’ve got me thinking now...but it’s usually all the same diameter of pipe....and to be fair...extremely not accurate at all. But perhaps like you...I like having original gear on the boat.
Basically...all I can tell you is that it’s very common and easy for the speedo pipe to get jammed, snagged or pinched if or when any engine movement takes place.
