First start of the year... what should I fill my empty tank with?

Hi everyone,

New to the boating world.

I have a Renken 1600 with a 1989 Mercury 115 2 stroke. One gerry can is full, the other empty. I was thinking of filling it up, dumping some sea foam in the tank and off I go... anything I should add?

Can anyone confirm that 87 octane is ok for this engine?

Cheers,
Parker

87 is fine

if the engine was prepared properly for storage, all you need to add gas. Hopefully you changed the gear oil prior to storage

Just need to put the correct amount of 2 stroke oil in it, a bit of seafoam won't hurt either, helps clean things up a bit. Standard regular fuel should be fine in it, just make sure you mix and then it is off you go.

Mixing the correct ratio of two stroke engine oil to fuel is the key here. If you are unsure, most two stroke engine oil bottles have approximate guidelines printed somewhere on the bottle for major engine manufacturers.

If your Oil Injection is still hooked up and working no need to mix gas and oil.

Yep, oil injection!

thanks everyone. I’ve spent a good amount of time requiring the boat and fixing the previous owners less then stellar work. I replaced the impeller along with gear oil and plugs.

Will be putting Ing in the muffs tonight and cranking it over
