Hey guys,

Just fired up my 89 Mercury 115 2 stroke. Had the muffs on it with medium pressure as per the directions and fired it up.

I had just finished putting a new water pump and impeller in the engine so I checked to see if I could get it in gear. Moves forward and reverse no problem.

Problem is... I see no water coming out of the tell-tale. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be coming out instantly with the muffs or in the water? I will try and follow the route of the hose and see if the hose is blocked... after that I need some help as to where to look. New to the outboard motor world.

Cheers!

Just checked the hose, it is not blocked...

I've read a few posts that seem to negate each other. I have read that the thermostat needs time to open before water comes out.

Others says that is balderdash.

I only ran the engine for maybe 10 seconds each time, fearing that if no water was coming out... I would have catastrophic failure and My summer was over...

What do you figure?

Well... I know this wasn’t the most prudent thing to do... but we put it in the water...

took it for a rip around the lake lake and no water out of the pee hole... I took the cowling off and the entire time we were underway, the exhaust plate was warm to the touch...
