I think it might be a 1992? From the pictures in the "OMC" information, it has the hump on the top of the outdrive...is it the super rare cone gear version, or original dog clutch type...i am thinking it is the older version, but it has the hump...again picture file is too big...

Is it ok to run it with the cover off on a regular basis...i bought it with no cover, and was assured as such.

From the Seloc manual (which doesn't come recommended, I just happen to have it...), model #3868156 shows to be a 1995, matched to a 4.3GL or 5.0FL. Can't answer your other questions. I'm currently running with my impeller cover off (that is, the drive cover that the impeller, it's cover and so forth is under), but it is not water tight, and your drive doesn't look like my '86.

From the picture you supplied, it is NOT a Dog-Clutch drive nor is it a Interim OMC Cone clutch drive. BOTH of those drives will have the raw water pump on the drive itself right about where the shift shaft is located on the one in your picture.

The one in your picture is a Volvo Penta SX drive or an OMC "branded" joint venture Volvo Penta SX drive.

Either way, it's a circa 1994 or newer drive. If you do not have a raw water pump on your engine, you'll need to get one with all the plumbing necessary to make it work.

In addition, if you do not have a transom mount for an SX, you'll need to get that too. The SX does not directly bolt to either a dog-clutch gimble or an interim (NON-joint Venture cone-clutch) gimble

It would help if you would post your engine size/drive model number in the boat you have now. year model is not useful, other than approximate model year for searching the BRP model/parts database to find the actual package model number.

Rick

That's the joint venture OMC/Volvo drive. Same as a Volvo SX. Lucky for you!
Model years for the OMC version were '94-'98

OK. First, thanks again to all who have helped me! i want to replace the u joint, impeller, thermostat, and possibly, the gimble bearing. The parts section of the website didn't work for me. 404 error all links. Any ideas.

You probably want this:

The raw water impeller kit appears to be this one:

The T-stat and U-joints can be had from NAPA or other places.

You can find all the above Sierra stuff online for good prices. iBoats price-matches other online sites I believe.

Cheers,

Rick
