Hi all! I’m just getting interested in outboard motors through this old Seahorse I found in my Grandad’s cellar, and I could use a little help with identification.

I’ve located the plate with the model and serial numbers, and it doesn’t seem to match up to some other information I found. The model is an HD-25, and the serial number is 489,834. The stickers also appear to be the prewar style, and I can’t imagine the tank having been changed, though it’s a possibility.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Right, my thoughts are that it could be a very early HD-25, and they just used the leftover oiling/starting stickers of the previous design.

My brother had on of those motors in the early 70s, never could get it to run without overheating. Weird Carb system on it too

The serial number makes it 1943-1945. War years.

Yeah, that’s my trouble. The serial number predates when the model ostensibly started production. Oh well, I guess it’s just a bit of an oddball. Thanks guys!
