The Charlotte Roval is the scene of the first Cup elimination race. Four drivers will be knocked out of the playoffs. Right now the 4 bubble drivers are Bowman, Bowyer, Big Bro and Jones. Can one of the 4 pull off a win on the Roval or score enough points to remain in the playoffs? Will Martin Truex sweep the the Round of 16? These questions will be answered on Sunday on NBC - Play the Peacock sound.

X-Men are also on tap. This is the middle playoff race and next week at Dover the cutting begins.

Charlotte weather looks good with the slightest chance of precip. I am not a forecaster!

Here is the schedule from MRN:

News and Notes
  • There is a proposal to eliminate pit stops from teams. Nascar says it will hurt the business model. Nascar needs no help to hurt their business model. They are doing fine all by themselves.
  • Silly Season update - Ricky Stenhouse is out of the #17 at the end of the year to be replaced by Chris Buescher. Tyler Reddick was also under consideration, but Buescher gets it.
  • 2020 Cup start times and TV coverage has been announced. on the Fox chunk of the schedule 9 races will be on Fox and 7 on FS1. On the NBC side, 7 will on NBC and 13 on NBCSN.
  • Notable schedule previously announced - Pocono doubleheader on June 27th and 28th. The championship race at Homestead is gone, replaced by ISM in Phoenix. Homestead will be in March.
  • After Homestead the Monster Energy Nascar Cup Series, MENCS, disappears. It joins the ranks of Winston, Sprint and Nextel as simply names in the wind as Cup series sponsors. Monster low-balled Nascar when no other chump could be found and they won't pay what Nascar is now asking. Monster had troubles with signage at some tracks due to prior track advertising agreements The Cup series will be called the Nascar Cup Series with no sponsors name. Somehow NASCAR is trying to sell 4-5 elite sponsorship to include track, broadcast, NASCAR website components - Whatever that means.
  • I'll miss seeing the Monster Girl's bellybuttons. :behindsofa: LOL
  • Gibbs did not appeal Erik Jones DQ for rear toe or rear wheel steer.
  • TV Ratings - Against the UGA-ND football game Saturday night, the race got a 1.07 vs 1.11 last year. UGA-ND got a 6.2.

iBoats Fantasy Live
  • iFL's 2nd playoff winner is justkiddin 5 for his 5th trophy this year. The mantle is gonna collapse. Congrats, JK5. :first:
  • JK5's win tightened up the overall leaderboard. FlaCowboy now has a 31 point lead over JK5.
  • Cup qualifying is tomorrow at 4:30, so the pole locks at 4:35.

Good luck all you iFL'ers,

Eliminate pit stops, what they heck does that mean?

Well, it's like this..............................................I don't know.

When Trucks started racing, it was on small tracks with a limited number of pits, so they had a form of stage racing where the yellow was waved and pitting was done in groups. Before the restart the trucks were placed in the same running positions as before the yellow. The same thing is still done for Trucks at Eldora with only a few pits.

This is proposal is for Trucks and X-Men, but there are a lot of questions. Maybe AAA will be called out to change a flat while trucks and cars whiz by - Just like along side a freeway. :noidea:

First and only practice before Cup qualifying - Johnson Larson Byron Bowyer DiBenedetto the fastest.

Klingerman, Hamlin and Wallace had encounters with the wall. Wallace was minor while Klingerman and Hamlin are switching to backup cars and will start at the rear on Sunday.

iFL pole locks at 4:35. I made my pick - Have you?

Michael McDowell was taken to the hospital this morning for severe gut aches and Dennis Cindric drove the #34 in practice.

While at the hospital, McDowell passed kidney stones and his crew chief says he will qualify the #34. A better man than I am!

I'm sure the only things he ever wanted to pass was cars on the track!

Ok, please humour me, again, who exactly is the Twerp? I need to write it down this time. And why did he get the moniker?

The Whining Twerp is the driver of the #18. Nothing is ever his fault if he doesn't win, just ask him.

Didn't post qualifying results yesterday, so here ya go;

Byron won the pole, followed by Bowman, Joey, Johnson, Bowyer, Harvick, Larson, Truex, Blaney, Menard, Keso and Buescher.
Today's Cup practice results - TWT spun out and damaged his car. It was the crew's fault cause they were all jammed up behind the wheel eating M&Ms and fighting over the last Snickers bar. LOL It doesn't look serious and seems to be repairable. The rest of the results;

5 fastest - Blaney, Preece, Joey, Johnson and Hamlin.

The final practice is at 2 o'clock.

I bet a few drivers wished they sat out the final practice like Tifft. Tifft's crew spent the time working on his car and had no further damage unlike Truex, Johnson, Bowman and ADillon.

ADillon spun through the grass, but missed hitting anything so probably no biggie. Truex missed a shift and blew his motor, so to the back to start the race. Johnson spun and whacked his car, crew is fixing it. Bowman did a number, do he's to the rear.

The list so far of those starting at the rear - Truex, Bowman, Klingerman and Hamlin from yesterday. Tifft didn't attempt a qualifying run yesterday after dinging his car in the 1st practice, so he was already at the back.

Final practice results - Elliott fastest in the sheet metal stress test. Truex, before blowing his engine, was second quickest, followed by Keso, Bowyer, and McDowell.

We will see more bent cars tomorrow after you set your rosters by 2:25 PM before the race.

The 1st lap featured a spin and a lot of cars avoided by shunting the chicane. No yellow.

On lap 3, Starr stopped on the track for a yellow.

This final stage has had 4 cautions with 5 laps left. Only 1 real caution in the first 40 laps and 4 in 22 laps of the final.

I bet the Cup bubble drivers are dreading tomorrow since the Roval is a cut race.

The Dinger wins the Roval. As long as the car isn't too high or too low or whatever else Nascar uses to take wins away in Truck and X-Men races.

Set your iFL rosters by 2:25 tomorrow afternoon. This is some tricky picking on the Roval.

Bowman spun, /i think - to the pits. Truex missed the chicane. Just on lap #1!

Through 5 laps, Byron led all and has almost a 3 sec. lead over Johnson.

1st (and won't be the last) yellow for Preese spinning.

Byron in front and Harvick is now second, Johnson 3rd with 5 to go in the heat.
