Hi, I'm trying to get my 93 Johnson 115 ready for winter. The lower unit is off getting rebuilt, so I have no way to run it to winterize it. Is there a way to get all the water out of the block?

When the lower unit was in place, wouldn't the water just drain out of the motor if the motor was left in an upright position? I would think that even though the lower unit has been removed from the motor, leave the motor in an upright position and the water would still self drain as it would have if the lower unit was never removed.

Yeah you are getting an even better drain by having the LU off.
You can run it by attaching a hose to the intake tube (never have that on full pressure)
THatd of course be adding more water to the system again

If you do as Bosunsmate suggested, that would be a great idea so you can run the motor and get the fuel with your stabilizer thru the entire fuel system, and get your fogging oil in if you are intending on fogging the engine (I always do it for the winter months, but some guys don't unless it will be stored for a long period like a year or two). When you shut the motor off and get rid of the garden hose off of the water pickup tube, the head will drain fully again, just as it would with the LU in place, even faster and more thorough.

edit: I personally do not know how to tell the pickup water tube from the discharge water tube, but you need to put the hose on the right one. Maybe someone can chime in here so I can learn how to tell the difference. Thanks.

There is only one tube from the pump to the block on a 1993 model 115 HP Johnson outboard motor.
