I just picked up a 1968/1969 Thunderbird Comanche to restore. It came with a 19?? Evinrude 150 VRO that needs a bunch of little parts. Unfortunately the previous owner cleaned it very well removing all the stickers and tags. The only labeling I could find was a faded out warning sticker. hence I have no idea what the model number is so I can't order parts before i start the tear down.
I have searched through countless parts breakdowns looking for one that matches. I found sticker kits that matched one year but engine diagrams that came close to other years.
I even contacted BRPs Marine Propulsion Division with the number off the plug and pictures. Their answer was
"Unfortunately, we do not have access to the information necessary in order to accurately identify your unit. I can tell you that the powerhead of the unit was replaced at some point as the number provided is for a powerhead and not a serial number."
Could someone out there help me figure out at what year this might be?
I have attached pictures and can post more if there is something specific that would help ID the outboard.
I would highly
appreciate any assistance.

Tis a 1984 model with a 155 commercial replacement powerhead, with 10 amp air cooled rectifier. Looks to be a salty dog...Compression test first before spending a dime on it...

Red lever on the electric primer valve is in the wrong position for running.

Thank you for helping out. Being fairly new to the o/b world, how would you suggest looking for parts? I am assuming the outer parts and below the power head would be for an 84 and the powerhead innards would be for a 155 commercial power head?

Listening to both sides of the debate (cold engine vs. warm engine) my plan was to do 2 sets of compression tests. I did a cold engine test and got about 82ish pounds on every cylinder (the resolution was not great on my new gauge). Due to the number of people complaining about accuracy of newer gauges and the fact that all readings seemed to be just about exact, I decided to do some testing with my air compressor to make sure the gauges were close. they seemed to match the with air compressor. But long story short... gravity was not my friend and I was unable to do a warm engine test.
I was told by local boat shop that the 150s were a lower compression motor but they couldn't give me exact numbers without the model number. the one in their shop (newer and a lot nicer than mine) was only pumping 90 psi
I did run the engine. I seemed to run strong with a little bit of a hick-up every once in a while, and the idle didn't want to come down where it should be. I am pretty sure it was due to the fuel coming out the throat of carbs 2 and 3 (the primer valve positioning was corrected before I started the motor)
All it seems to need is a good cleaning, a few little plastic pieces, a good carb cleaning/rebuild, a new water impeller, and some quality time in the paint booth.
As long as I get a season out of it, it would be worth the time to me.
What are your thoughts?
