This past Friday evening we watched the documentary "Pariah, The Lives and Deaths of Sonny Liston" on the Showtime network. I had been anticipating it since I saw a preview as a life long Boxing fan and former amateur boxer when I was a kid. My wife wasn't too interseted and I told her if you don't like it after 10 minutes you can have the remote. After 30 minutes she hadn't said a word. It's not about Boxing, being the 28th of 29 children, quitting school at 8 years old to work the fields basically as a 20th century slave, the civil rights movement, being a leg breaker for the Italian Mafia,a life of crime and prison time as well as a love story. Then becoming Heavywieght Champion of the World that was unstoppable until he met a young skinny Muhhamad Ali. Then the infamous "dive" contreversy in the second Ali fight. Ending in his suspicious death that many call a murder to this day. It has all that and more. I learned more about Sonny Liston after watching for 15 minutes than I have for the last 65 years.
I highly recommend this documentary to anyone interested in any or all of the above. My non sports fan wife watched the entire show.
