Just purchased a 270 searay and the bottom paint needs touched up. My question is what type of paint do I need I have no clue what kind is on it and I'm not wanting to sand it all off since I have no way of raising it up off the trailer. The boat will be in freshwater and in a slip for about 6 months or so. Thanks

You might check with other boat owners in slips near you to see what they use on the bottom. Sometimes freshwater requires only a slime resistant paint, sometimes it requires a non fouling paint.

You will probably need to paint the whole boat bottom, since you do not know what kind of paint (single season, single season ablative or multi season ablative.) it currently has. Any idea how old the paint is?

Also, unless the paint is black, you may have trouble matching the color.

Chris1956 I have no idea how old the paint is and it's red. The plan is to paint as much as I can

Congrats on your purchase, SeaRay's are a quality boat! In any event, I have done several complete under sides and while I don't endorse any particular product, I will have to give "TotalBoat" some serious high marks. While you can roll and even brush bottom paint like decking products and gelcoat, I highly recommend that it gets sprayed on. The difference in any product or application method is quit superior. In any event my 2 pennies worth.

Spraying of antifouling paint is unusual. First, you want the paint to be as thick and even as possible. Sprayed paint is even, but thin. Secondly, spraying that toxic paint cannot be good for the painter or anyone nearby or the environment.

I jack the boat up off the trailer 4 inches, and use a small foam roller to apply the paint. That works pretty good and is pretty safe.
