Bayliner VDO guages not working

I'm new to this forum, and since I'm an electronics technician, to help a diving friend like me,
I followed this discussion on the problems of the instruments.

I'm looking for info on the fuel gauge system for a 2001 capri bayliner boat model US-BIYA19BLK001
Mercury 4.3 EFI engine
The alarm is sounded and the needle goes down, yet the tank is full. After a while the alarm disappears and the needle goes up. The defect is irregular.

The electrical connector behind the dashboard has been cleaned and it continues. I did not find the probe on the tank.
Can you help me ?

Welcome aboard. Your post was moved to a thread of it's own because the thread you posted in is 9 years old.

Find another way to post the video. I'm not downloading a file from an unknown source.

I'm not positive a low fuel condition causes an alarm. The fact that you are getting an alarm and the fuel gauge seems to fail at the same time indicates you have an electrical problem. Most likely a ground fault because the fuel sender is a variable resistor between ground and the gauge.

Start by cleaning the battery connectors and the ends of the battery cables. Also check the cable connector from the motor that goes to the instrument panel for tightness and corrosion.

Fuel gauge works with a 240 to 33 ohm sender (E to F). Grounding the pink wire at the tank should peg the meter Full



Agree, if your getting an alarm it sounds like something else is going on.
Thinks that cause an alarm
Engine over heat
Drive lube bottle empty
Low oil pressure (will sound off until motor is started)

Can be some others depending on the motor serial number

When the fault appears, there is an audible and visual 'petrol' alarm on the large speed display and the fuel gauge needle goes down slowly. After a certain, variable time, the audible and visual alarm disappears and the gauge needle slowly rises. (new photo attached)
I would like to check the gauge on the tank, but I can't find it, on the tank I see 3 'waterproof' pipes (photo of my 1st message) but no electrical wiring.
If anyone knows where can hide this probe I am very interested

I suspect you have a grounding issue.
The sensor is mounted in the top of the fuel tank.
If you look closely ate the picture you posted, there appears to be something flat (to the right of large hose) under the covering over the tank. Guessing this is the fuel sensor.

That looks like where it is. The covering is just for looks, so cutting it will have no effect, otherwise need to remove all the hose
