Help with Johnson 65esl72s

Hi i just Bought a small 15"ft Boat with a Johnson 65 65esl72s .,.i Need help and Steps to Starting this Boat" ..i dont want to do something wrong and mess it up ...i want to at least try it first on Muffs in my backyard..any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

change the impeller… add fuel oil mix battery & turn the key Some engines can be choked for starting by pushing the key in while turned to start …

What kind of Battery can i buy for this .,im abit precautios with this one since of its age ..i would like to get everything exact" ..also what a good oil and fuel mix also what grade Gasoline ?

I could rebuild the powerhead and the electric shift lower unit without a glance at a repair manual.----What do you want to know ?-------When the student is willing , the teachers will help !!

Any good quality 12 volt car battery will work or pick up a marine starting battery. Most of mine I get from Walmart and they work fine.

marine starter battery fuel is 50/1 87 octane ... some like non ethanol gas but ethanol never caused me grief in 50 years of boating

I like size 27 marine dual purpose START/ DEEP CYCLE around 800 amps at Costco or Wal Mart

ok Nice' i was thinking about goin to Walmart today to pick up a Battery" ..do all Walmarts carry Marine Batteries ?

Any water in the gearcase ?------Change lower unit oil , drain and refill with TYPE C gear oil for electric shift.-----Install new impeller and look at thermostat and poppit valves near top of the cylinder head.----Do a compression test for reference.----Post your numbers.

this has a manual way of puting the engine up or down ...where do i unlock this from ??

yea here it is...these dont have electric raise or lower right ? only manually ?

i found the manual lever ..heres the pic of the engine...

The bracket with the " L-shaped " slot lets it down.------There is also a lever on the front for the reverse lock.

thanx" got it ,.now i dont see where i can lock it in place" ...whats the best Oil and Fuel mixture for this type of engine ?

i Saw a bit of dried up Gunk therr im the 2nd picture...i wonded what that is...

Looks like there is an issue with the stator coils under the flywheel.
