Okay, got the big slip finally, and will leave the 1977 (great shape) 24' Bayliner Saratoga V/P 280 in the water for about 4 months in Puget Sound. Will paint the bottom, transducer paint on SS trim tabs, Trilux on the prop and lower leg. What to use on the middle working parts of the 280 outdrive? Thinking white grease, or will that deteriorate the bellows or whatever. Any suggestions? WD 40 will just wash off. Barnacles are tenacious so far this year! My 14' with no paint had a sandpaper hull in 2 weeks! Thanks in advance

Marine grease is great for the bellows.I have used it for years.Turn the o/d to port and pump plenty of grease on all the bellows and hoses.then to stbd and do the same, then raise the drive and do the bottom. When you are done greasing, put surgical gloves on and get your hands in there and make sure you get the grease between the grooves. It probably wont last the entire year but it will keep anything off of it for a while and it will extend the life of the rubber.Charlie

It's a good opportunity to check the bellows for wear. A friends boat sunk at the dock when the bellows gave out.

Robby, It is likely that you will need less or no paint on the prop and the less paint pn the part of the outdrive that makes contact with the water while underway. The churning of the prop keep all but the hub clean, and the water friction assists in keeping the lower part of the outdrive clean. I have found that the upper part of the outdrive gets the majority of the barnacles. Also make sure your zinc anodes are good, especially if you use a ss prop. Also make sure you have electrical continuity between the power trim cylinders and the outdrive, or the zincs will not protect the cylinders.

Wires for continuity okay. Have a question on the power trim tabs though. Should I put a small round zinc on each tab? They are stainless, but I have seen zinc on other tabs. I have nothing, nor does it look like it ever did. I can't see it hurting anything. Any opinion? Thanks in advance! Robby
