I've got a Volvo penta 5.7 Gxi that I bought on the low last week and now I'm figuring out why. I bought the boat with no ecu. I just received a new ecu from cbm motorsports today and of course installed a few hours ago. Long story short, when I turn the key on, i get 2 beeps, a couple of clicks from the relays, and no power at either fuel pump. I do not hear either pump prime. I do get power at the fuel pumps for a split second when the key is first turned on but the relay shuts right back off. Almost as if the ecu is telling it to. It is getting spark, just no fuel. My question is, would there be any other sensors telling the ecu to shut power off to the relay/pumps? What checks does the ecu go through in order to turn power on to pumps? Is it possible I have a bad ecu or incorrect ecu? Kill switch lanyard is intact btw.

To help muc out when he comes, he will need engine serial number, model number and any other number that is on a VP motor

Yes, Volvo made a lot of different 5.7GXi models. Engine serial number or sometimes the HIN will identify what engine you have.

After cranking and starting the power for the pumps is supplied by the alternator. Which would explain why if it doesn't start the relays deactivate.

But MUC is much better at this than me.

The alternator supplies power on a carburetor engine. How the fuel pumps get their power and ground on a 5.7GXi depends on what exact engine we are talking about.
