Hey All,

I have a 9.9HP Outboard Mercury Pro Kicker on my Alumaweld Intruder Sterndrive 2006 -- dual batteries and are fully charged - the main engine and all electrical items work (horn, main engine starts, fishfinders etc...)

THE ISSUE:
Went to start up the kicker from winterization and the electric start does not work (it makes one single click and stops per each time I press the start button).

The electric trim on the kicker works like a charm.
The motor starts up great on the first pull.
I checked the two starter fuses on they look in great shape.

I assume the culprit is the starter at this point and would appreciate any tips or advice on how to test a starter. The Mercury dealer quoted me around $550 for a new starter whereas I google'ed the current starter installed and that part ranged from $90 to $150. I couldn't find any specific videos on a 9.9 Pro Kicker removing and testing the starter -- but if anyone has come across one -- please and kindly share!

Thanks to everyone on here -- you are great help!

Current Starter Installed: Hitachi S106-12B

Just had same problem on 115 hp, starter would turn a little bit jumped the solenoid with screwdriver and it worked. Brought a solenoid off ebay for 18.00 now I am going to put it in.

Thanks! I don’t think my starter has a solenoid to replace. Dealership says these starters are around $500 :/

Make sure you have a fully charged battery/known to be a good battery, place a screwdriver across the two studs on the starter solenoid and see if it starts cranking
