Hey guys been working on this fd-11. Got it to start yesterday just for a second using starting fluid. Tank is holding pressure, just checked all fuel lines at tank and motor. I already rebuilt carb. Anything I could have missed? Thx

No I don’t guess I did the blow test? How is that done? Slow speed drip chamber? I replaced everything where slow speed needle goes and cleaned out the fitting on bottom of carb..

Crosbyman,, just looked there is no filter in the fuel filter at the moment. Does that glass filter have to be fuel of fuel? Does fuel run from the tank to the fitting then to fuel filter, then to carb? Thanks

as you pump the tank .....the filter bowl will fill up then send the gas over to the carb..you should see fuel in the glass bowl

if the carb float works ok air will pass inlet to outlet air will not pass when the carb is held upside down

did you do some reading in the red book ??

Yessir I’m reading the book now. Doesn’t say anything about the blow test. I remember reading something on here years ago. Maybe Joe Reeves said something about it one time. The book did talk about the pressurized tank and checking for fuel. Sry it’s taking awhile to reply. I’m not getting my messages.

the low speed drip chamber is under the dime size plug at the rear of the carb just above the throttle plate.. check utubes…

see FD carb layout & troublesome issues in the red book page 139 most of these carb work the same basic way

Ok you’re saying red book? I was looking at the actual Johnson service manual for my model.

Yessir Crosbyman I did clean out the drip chamber and replaced the core plug. And my fuel filter is on side of motor not under carb. Thx again. Awesome book.

Blow into inlet with carb right-side up, and air should pass. Repeat with carb upside-down and air should not pass. That glass filter bowl will not remain full when the motor is running.

Why are you convinced it is a fuel problem? Have you checked the ignition, especially the coils? All fd-11 motors have bad coils unless they have already been replaced!!!

Yessir, I’ve changed all the coils, points and condensers. It’s getting fire. It will start with a squirt of starting fluid.

OK, thanks for saying that. BTW, bad coils will often fire starting fluid but not run on gasoline. That's what makes life interesting.
