hey guys. Trying to help my boat guy out with an issue. I have the hydro electric shift as thr model indicates and I have forward reverse and showing power to thr neutral lead but apparently have no neutral engaging. Theres power coming off the solenoid in thr lower and power at the top as well. Is the solenoid bad? Is there something else thst needs to be looked at. Just got thr motor and had all the carbs done etc. Runs great but stalls at low idle bc its not disengaging forward

Thanks

Both neutral and reverse solenoids must be activated at the same time to get reverse. Since you have reverse, both solenoids, and the wires leading to them, are working. So what gives???? Common sense says the shift switch in the remote control is bad.

Yea thats why he is scratching his head i think. Has power to both the neutral and reverse showed me them on a test light. Could the solenoid be bad ans still show as 12v?

I'm not sure I know the shift select in the remote? This hydro electric stuff is new to me

Nevermind I missed the reverse part. Ok on to the switch. I also researched somebody switching it over to rotary. If I can't get the switch I would need a 1 off 1 on 2 on switch?

With the engine running you apply 12 volts to the GREEN wire at the motor.--------Do you get neutral then ?----That is how you would determine if it is a switch problem or a mechanical problem.------Some will argue------ but I think the electric shift units are wonderfully simple and reliable.

It is simple to use a DPDT toggle switch to shift it like I had rigged up at my test tank.

Some folks are afraid of electric shift.------Then perhaps these new ---E-tec G2 -----motors should not be on their wish list.

Cars have had electric shift for years. Now they even have electric steering.

Yes my mechanic had power to the green and still no neutral! We know both aolenoids are working since there's reverse as FR stated above. I didn't want to use a toggle as accidental trigger could occur. Rotary seems a lot more safe.

With due respect to your mechanic, that doesn't make sense. I think his voltage test is faulty. Try a different test. With motor running and using a jumper wire, connect 12V directly from battery + and green shift wire at motor. Should shift to neutral.

FR will speak with him about that today. Its back over there after a failed test run. Definitely wasn't disengaging into neutral on tbr lake test. Ill check back with update.

Race- good question. We may have to try thst too.

You can test this at home in your driveway.---No water required.------Follow these steps.------Remove sparkplugs.-----Put 1-5/16" socket on the flywheel nut.-----Switch the shift wires.----Turn key to " ON "--------Turn flywheel with wrench.----A good lower unit will shift to neutral after about one turn of the flywheel.
