Metal tank conversion

I have a newer johnson 25 hp with a 6 gallon plastic tank (2 prong). I have inherited an old evinrude 6 gallon metal tank (3 prong).

Is there a way to convert the metal tank to useable? I have been searching for about 4 hours and have not found a concrete answer to this.

Is there a new fuel pick up I can purchase that will fit? 0763909 pick up assembly seems to be what I would be after, but i cannot for the life of me find any info telling me if that fits my tank.

I probably ran into my answer somewhere along the line, but if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same gas tanks as well. And I bought the typical Johnson/Evinrude/OMC fuel hose assembly for mine and it seems like it fits very well to the old metal tank. I am not sure what the spacing is on your plastic tank setup, but the hose assembly I bought for a Johnson engine seems to fit on both ends... IDK

Do you recall what you bought? I have new 2 prong connectors, but they do not fit on the 3 prong connector on the tank. The top 2 pins and the bottom prong are in the way from the connectors fitting onto it.

Whether its a different fitting for the fuel line or a new pick up assembly is fine, I'm just not sure how to make this work.

This here shows OEM replacement parts, and nothing shows up for a 2 prong replacement for the old metal tanks (item #16).

I have not found anything telling me the plastic tank pick ups will work with the metal tanks. Or getting a 2 prong to fit to the 3 prong. It doesnt matter what I need to replace, provided it will work correctly.

I may just order the Evinrude 0763903 pick up kit to see if it fits. [h=1][/h]

The 3rd pin is the vent.. Just use the same connector.. the 3rd pin pushes in to vent the tank..EDIT If you are talking about the 3rd large pin..It is just there so you don't put the hose on the wrong way.

That tank will work fine with any omc connector. The third prong is only there to prevent you from plugging the hose on backwards. The two little pins are a fuel shut-off valve and a vent valve.

I had a 2 prong fitting, but it didnt have the notch out the OMC ones do, so i picked one up and it seems to work. IDK how i feel about this gap however. Ill follow up when I fire this thing back up.

If I'm not mistaken, there are O rings inside the connector. So it should seal and work okay...

If it sloshes gas out of that area, there is a tiny o-ring around one of those little pins. If gas sloshes out, air can leak in. The o-ring can be replaced. But be aware that there are two sizes of them.
