Too much Oil Cause Engine to Stall

I have a Volvo Penta 300, and when I come to a quick stop, my engine cuts out. The lanyard is still engaged, so the engine doesn't cut out for that reason. I did some digging around, and I noticed the engine had a ton of oil. I suspect it got a double dose as the oil is 1.5 inches from the full marker on the dipstick. Would that cause enough drag to stall the engine from a quick stop?

Don't see to much oil killing motor.
What VP 300 is it?

First question....why is there 2 quarts more in the crank case than what is sopposed to be in there?

Second, why havent you corrected the over-fill of oil

Third, look at your fuel system

Think your going to need to have the motor scanned for codes.

It code be many things, Cam sensor, bad connection, and many others

If it only does it coming to a quick stop, and not when you slow down easy, then maybe the IAC

I came to a sudden stop in rough water and the engine stopped allowing water in through exhaust and into cylinders. I only just bought the boat and that's how it was delivered to me. I should imagine the dealer will fix the overfill of oil. However, I want to know why the engine stopped as I'm not keen on this happening again; getting towed several miles is not fun. If it's a general consensus an overfill of oil is the cause then I'll feel more confident with my purchase. If the accumulative consensus is something else, then it'll be a bigger battle with the dealer or a Lemon Law lawyer

Extra oil wont stall the motor

If the motor sputtered and died, fuel system may be rhe culprit.

If the motor just suddenly died, most likely something electrical

If you got water in your cylinders, that could account for extra fluid in the crank case. However normally if the motor is running, water wont come up the exhaust into the cylinders
