Been reading other threads, trying to understand a problem I’m having .......almost ready to fall on my sword with this one. Here goes: boat runs like a dream. Sits for a few minutes, won’t start. Pour gas down carb, fires and runs perfect. New fuel pump, filter, and lines from tank. Two questions: is there an anti siphon valve somewhere? ( I heard mention in thread). If so, where?
or.... is there a sensor that could be sending a shutoff signal to fuel pump? Been fighting this for over a year. Please help. Boat is a 2002 Campion with a 4.3 Volvo Penta.

yes, the anti siphon valve is the fitting on the fuel tank the hose is connected to

however it also sounds like the idle circuits may be plugged and your float setting is not correct. you should have a holley carb, so I would get a carb kit and go thru the carb, pay close attention to the passages low on the metering block and set the float level properly.

Thanks. It’s a new Holly carb from Summit. I’ll check anti siphon valve. Never knew there was one. I imagine I can get one from iboats?

Hi
Firstly...what a lovely boat you have. Great model.
secondly half way through your post, I was thinking it might be a case of the usual auto choke issue.
but then I read you mention a Holley carb. Now I’m not certain, but would that be the originally fitted carb to such a 4.3 of that era ? If not, was it changed to a Holley at somepoint and was the set up and manifold suited to it also ?

Sir,
Yes, it is a nice boat. But......I've been fighting this issue for over a year. It had the original holly carb, but I thought that was the problem so I purchased a new one ($800). Didn't fix the problem. New fuel pump, filter system, new fuel lines....I could go on and on....But, today I think I solved it. I found the anti siphon valve, and it was almost plugged. I purchased a new one and I had all the gas I needed. Still won't believe it until I get to put it into the water and run it then let it set for 1/2 hour and try to start it, but I'm pretty sure that was the culprit.
By the way, how do you know about the Campion? I am from Nevada and have had it for a couple of years, but not many in these parts have ever seen one.

I know about them because I’m lucky enough to have a very very rare model of campion here in the U.K.
They are in different hands now, but previously they were all hand finished in a small factory in the west of Canada. Really really high end brand in the day. Extremely expensive for a while. Then they went a little mass produced almost.
I have a chase model. But a chase performance edition. Lovely thing.
recentlt they pretty much had every other boat out the factory a chase model. Not a good idea I think. Then they were bought over and trying new things.
great hull if you have the right era and some have Kevlar apex hulls. Very heavy things but very good for a North American hull. Way above your average searay or regal etc etc.

Excellent and thanks for the feedback. My boat (same engine, 4.3 4bbl) had the same problem when we first got it in 2002. I did not know about anti siphon valves and my mechanic found it and replaced the cheap aluminum one with a better quality (Evinrude/Johnson part) brass one. No problems in all the years since then!
