Hi everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this.

Question:

My question is how do I reinstall the prop shaft with the saddle yoke? What orientation? There's nothing that holds it in place while I slide the prop shaft in for it to hook onto the arms that are connected to the shift rod. I'm at a loss and can't find any info online much less with pictures on how to do this properly.

Background:

I recently purchased a 1989 Arriva with a 1989 Force 125 out board model# 1251F9D. When I got it only forward worked so I'm in the process of repairing it by replacing the Clutch Dog. I received the Clutch today along with a new Saddle Yoke which had fallen off of my setup and I have still not found.

Thanks for your help.

The lower unit has a drain plug on the very bottom, just above that is a slotted screw.
That screw is what holds the shift mechanism in place.
Somebody removed the screw and caused the problem.

Get a manual and then a parts diagram to figure out where the parts go.
You'll need to remove the front cover to align the shift yoke with the shift rod.

You also need to get marine assembly grease to hold the yoke in place.
Regular grease won't dissolve and can cause problems.

There might be a video of someone rebuilding a Force/Chrysler drive.

Where you located?

IF....nobody removed it; it's still in there, hold the LU in the position so it can fall out & shake
a scope camera is a very handy tool to have

search in our archives on this topic, it has been discussed many times

Remove the front cover.
Look down inside.
You can see where the yoke meets the shift rod.
Grease the Yoke and slide the prop shaft in to meet the shift rod.
The grease holds the Yoke in place until it meets the shift rod.
Use Assembly Grease
