Fairly new to boat repair and just adventurous enough to be dangerous. Lol.

Im having what I believe to be a grounding issue with my starter (intermittent no-start condition) and I think it may be a bad ground wire from my battery to engine block. The cable is a bit more flimsy feeling than my positive lead so I suspect it has had some internal breakage. Anyway, the connection point on the block is a b**ch to access (I can barely feel it with the tips of my fingers), and will never be able to easily get a wrench on it to remove the old ground wire and install a new one. Is there somewhere else I can connect the ground from the battery with easier access or does it absolutely need to be that hard to reach post?

thanks in advance for any advice.

Not sure moving other stuff is much of an option. There’s a mess of stuff in the way...spark plug cables, hydraulic hoses and those a big exhaust (?) tube...

The ground can be located anywhere on the block. Could leave original and add an additional

Have you checked the start assist relay?

It’s on the bell housing, there’s a stud on each side. Yes it can be tough to get at on some boats. I have the same Volvo style exhaust on my OMC and I can get at both of them but my boat is wide open around the engine. You probably use an appropriately sized bolt like the one used on older models for the front starter mount.

moving stuff is the only option. sometimes you have to remove bits of the boat, sometimes you have to pull the motor just to swap a starter.
