I am in the process of full bellows and gimbal bearing replacement due to water infiltration. I suspect the main culprit is a hose fitting inside the boat where the water inlet goes from the rigid plastic thru-hull fitting to the hose. To diagnose I put the boat in the water and ran it for a bit. I was able to get my head and camera back there to see a repetitive "squirt" of water originating from just above the output shaft of the motor. The drip was directly down, with force, around an inch from the transom wall. At that time, I could not see the direct source. Since then, I've removed the bell housing as well as more interior obstructions to improve my view. I can now see the plastic fitting that has the hose connected to it which runs up to the steering cooler at the top of the engine.

My struggle now is that from the outside, I see the inlet hose connects to right angle white plastic hose bib, and it doesnt seem to be serviceable from the outside (looks like maybe some sort of rubber grommet securing it). From the inside, I see a bolt on each side of a flange with a black plastic bib pointing up at a 45 degree angle. I have yet to determine whether the hose has failed or if the connection is just loose. I'd like to replace the plastic thru-hull piece but I'm unsure of part number. Are these somewhat universal across the alpha/bravo line or do I need to be very accurate with model/serial number? Also, which component serial number drives this answer? Outdrive, Transom, or Motor?

Also, I did have a small drip out of the shift cable at the top of the motor. It was much less volume but nonetheless, Its being replaced.

I'd appreciate any insights on the part replacements as well as general commentary on my diagnosis. I'm getting into panic mode as my week-long trip to Norris Lake in Tennessee beginning July 3 seems to be at risk. No shop would take the job under such time restriction. I'm beginning to feel overwhelmed mainly due to the necessity for some specialized tool at each step of the way.

Yes in this case (and every case) having the serial number of the Stern Drive or Transom assembly is best for better accuracy of finding the right parts for your unit but being a 1999 will yield the following parts guide below to be the same for this situation.

Water hose item number 15, https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/...30862/2686/100
Water tube Item numbers 16 & 17, https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/.../30862/2686/80

To get the hose tube out, remove the black bib and rubber grommet bushing from inside the boat then push the tube to the out side of the boat..., The following links of the service manual should help with the general sequence,
http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/ma...er14.html#/442
http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/ma...er14.html#/458
http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/ma...er14.html#/464
http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/ma...er14.html#/466
http://boatinfo.no/lib/mercruiser/ma...er14.html#/424

If the shift cable end was leaking water on top of the "engine" then there could be water getting either into the U-joint bellows area due to failed bellows, Bad water inlet O-ring, bad bell housing gasket, outer shift cable sleeving compromised by heat, etc., and the most common is Merc # 23 - 806036A1 bell housing shift shaft seals are bad being pushed by exhaust water... Item # 6, https://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/...30862/2686/100

Totally tracking everything your describing. I have all new bellows, gimbal bearing, shift cable, u joints, seals, etc. Ive been through the parts diagrams on Mercury's website quite a bit. I just haven't felt comfortable ID'ing that water fitting based on the pictures in the parts diagram vs what I see at the boat. I suppose it could just be lack of detail in the drawing. Frustratingly, the parts you indicated have no drawings in the descriptions either.

Serial numbers:
Outdrive: 0L118438
Transom: 0L244106
Engine: 0L041741

Copy and paste each part number either online or eBay and you typically will see detailed photos of the parts you're looking to compare...,Here's the tube for you, https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=32-416721&_sacat=0
