Transom Leak

Hi all, hope everyone is getting some time on the water! I took my 2006 Sea Ray 185 out for the first time with all new bellows and a just rebuilt 3.0 and it didn't go so well. After about an hour babying it as the builder superscribed and my oil pressure dropped to zero, not a great day. In addition I had water coming in somewhere under the engine, it appeared to be running down the shift cable, but pretty hard to tell. My question is since I pulled the engine yet again can I put the outdrive back on launch it and look for the leak since everything is now exposed? Am I missing something obvious. Attached is a picture of where it comes through the transom, is something missing? Not a happy troop, but hopefully I can get back out soon!

Water coming out the shift cable usually means the water passage o-ring isn't seated properly and water from the drive is being forced into the shift slide pocket and up the cable.

I'd be most concerned about 0 oil pressure. You need to get your builder on that asap! Could be a loose sender wire? Pray it is. The water intrusion is definitely from boot area. A lot easier to pull OD than motor.

It's oil pressure for sure, engine temp went up and I could hear knocking, shut it down immediately. When I restarted I could hear it dragging and a knocking sound. I already pulled the motor, it's in the back of my truck going back to the builder.

Rick, when you say water out of the shift cable do you mean up by the linkage and actually coming out of the cable itself, what I observed was water dripping off the outside sheathing near the transom, I could also see it when we were parked and just floating.

Yup, I read you wrong. And yeah, with the motor out you can reinstall the drive and dunk it. As long as the Y pipe is there you won't sink.

99% likely that if you saw water around the OUTSIDE of the shift cable at that point, it's the shift cable bellows.
