Hello All, My first post here and it's a question. I have a 1984 SeaRay SRV 225 with a Mercruiser 260
outdrive and I can smell gas when the boat is in operation as well as when i bring it back to the dock and shut it off. I have tried running the blower with the boat in operation but it doesn't really improve. I know the boat is old and as I am new to boating is this normal?

first,

welcome aboard

second, no it is not normal. you most likely either are running rich, or have a fuel leak

start looking for the cause of the fuel smell.

Might want to make sure your blower is working properly as well.
The intake hose should be low in the bilge and also check to see if air comes out the exhaust vent when the blower is on.

Gas fumes in an enclosed area is just a bomb waiting on a spark/ignition.....best to get it fixed before said bomb goes off!

SeaRay boats of that era had aluminum fuel tanks. They can corrode and leak, after a while.

Of course, it could be a leak in the gas gauge sender or one of the hoses, which is easier to fix.

Open the engine cover & let the fumes dissipate before you start it until you get this figured out. Don't rely on just the blower. Gas fumes & ignition do not mix. Good luck.

Gas fumes means get the blasted thing out of the garage and away from the house and find the leak in a hurry. Whatever you do, don't start the engine. If you can't giterdone yourself, hire a mechanic.

In my roughly 55 years of boating I have seen way too many explosions and a few were way too close.
