Hi Everyone,
I have a 20' bow rider that we just took on vacation with us to northern Wisconsin. The lake we were on has an immense amount of dissolved iron in it. So bad, that the water looks like iced tea. It's just part of the geology in the area. it's mostly harmless, so we deal with it. We've been on this lake before so I knew what to expect. The dissolved iron, which of course is in the form of iron oxide or rust, stains any and everything... my toenails are still orange a week later
. Of course this means it stains fiberglass. Like I mentioned, I've been on this lake before... probably 10-15 times in my life, every time with a white boat. I've never had any problems removing the rust stains from the fiberglass. Most common rust stain removers work well on the fiberglass. BUT, this year, for some unknown reason, the rusty water stained the white vinyl seats on our boat. We were swimming and in and out of the lake numerous times which got the seats wet with the lake water. I've tried everything and I can't get the stains out of the vinyl. I'm shocked and a bit heartbroken. I bought this boat new in 2003 and I have taken great care of it. Most people would think it's 5 years old, not 17. Anyway, I'm hoping someone has some ideas of what I could try. Below is what I've tried so far. The combination has helped, but the stains are still easily noticeable.
Star Brite Hull Cleaner
Star Brite Rust Stain Remover
Muriatic Acid
Whink
Goof Off Rust Aid
Iron Out (powder)
Bleach
Soft Scrub
SOS Pad
I have a spot that I have treated with everything listed above. I have let some products sit for 30-45 minutes. I have scrubbed this one spot for hours with everything I can think of. Nothing has completely removed the stain.
If you have any ideas, please let me know.
Thanks,
JC
