Hello,

I have a 2002 JC Tritoon with a Mercrusier 5.0 MPI engine. We just purchased the boat and have had nothing but problems since purchasing the boat. While doing maintenance on the boat I found this loose wire dangling down in the back of the motor into the bottom of the engine bay in the water near the bilge.

Im assuming its a vacum line and is suppose to be plugged into something somewhere, maybe even at the bottom of the motor somewhere. Its pretty hard to get underneath the motor and you can't see anything down there so im hoping thats not the case. I was wondering if anyone knew where this went?

Here is a link with a picture.

Its the wire we tied up and put a screw in the end of, since were unsure what to do with it.

That's not a wire. Looks like a hose. You need to follow it to its source, probably the drive oil monitor. If it is, then it needs to be connected to its fitting on the transom plate...

That hose isn’t normally there. Has it been fitted previously to check vacuum or something ?

Sorry everyone I meant hose.

We plugged it with a screw and hung it up were its at now, because it was just dangling in the bottom of the motor bay. The end of the hose was laying in the water by the bilge. It looks like a vacuum line to me so we figured it wasn't suppose to be there.

We're not sure where the hose goes though, i'm sure its' suppose to be plugged into something.

I take it it’s not the pitot speedo pipe from the drive ? And just tied up there ? Looks about that size.

You may be right, but iv never heard of that... one of my codes that came up when I had it read was "Pitot pressure input low - active"

I tied it up there because it was just laying down detached in the bottom of the engine bay. It wasn't connected to anything!

So if it is the pitot speedo pipe from the drive, where does the loose end go?

Onto the back of the speedo on dash if it’s an anolouge gauge. If you have smart craft it won’t be used or connected.
that pitot sensor fault will always show as a fault on your mpi 5.0. It doesn’t have that sensor fitted.
