I just bought this 1993 15hp longshaft, guy listed it as a 9.9 bc the hood said 9.9. What all is needed to convert this to short shaft? Thx

I remember changing one of my motors years ago to a long shaft from original short shaft. I would imagine that you would have to do just the opposite of what I had to do. On mine, I had to buy a longer drive shaft, longer water tubes and an extension for the motor housing. So take your extension off, get a shorter shaft and shorten the water tubes to the correct length and you should be o.k. if my memory serves me right. It has been MANY years ago since I did mine.

Yeah I’m hoping it has the short water tube with the added extension, I’m almost certain I have to buy the shorter shift rod that’s in the lower unit.,

You will need to change the driveshaft and the lower shift rod. You should be able to shorten the inlet water tube

Thx Vic S. If memory serves me correctly, that lower shift rod is threaded and can be screwed out?

What is the best method or tool to use to shorten the inlet tube? And is 5” the exact measurement? Thx

Yes I have one of thiose. If the water inlet tube slides out of the exhaust I should be fine. I can cut it from the top.

If you didn't start working on that motor yet to make it a short shaft, you may be better off (Cheaper) just putting an adjustable motor mount on the stern of your boat and you can raise or lower the motor how you want it. Just a thought I had.

Too late. Lol. Dropped the lower unit with the 5” extension. Sure enough Evinrude built that motor with the long inlet tube. So I pulled powerhead to get to exhaust tuner and water inlet tube. Wasn’t too long of a process.
