Does my TKS engine/electric fuel pump only work with the model 866141 carb and OEM electric choke?
Originally had an OEM electric choke carb, model 866141 with no flapper valve. Replaced with a rebuilt TKS carb that has a flapper valve, as the rebuilder, Flyingfish carburator inc., didn’t have my carb in stock, but said it was a direct replacement. New carb started flooding engine after 4 hrs of operation. Rebuilder states TKS carbs are pressure tested to 7psi and a higher pressure can override the float. The OEM fuel pump is putting out measured 7+ psi.I think is rated 6-11 psi.Can anyone confirm? I opened up the new carb and the metal plate inserted in the compressed foam float body is a little lose and could be the problem, allowing the float to top out against the top of the carb body, or the over pressure condition could have stressed (broken)the float? Finally would a copper float body resolve the overpressure issue?
Thank you for your input and thoughts.

Agree

Your rebuilder doesn't know what he is talking about and just trying to make you think its not his fault.
That said flyingfish is a good name because it smells :D

Here is manual 41 for TKS

Thanks everyone for your information. The TKS manual was a great help. Specifically that TKS Mercarbs should have a float needle with a spring and base gasket with divider, which the replacement carb did not. The Rodchester Carb OEM page I found on line confirmed the requirement for a needle valve with a spring was required for marine application to absorb the shock from slamming.
