Trouble getting flywheel off. Harmonic balancer removal tool is a little wide and fearful of damaging threads if I crank it down.

called around town to see if any outboard mechanics had a OMC removal tool and would let me pay them $10-20 to pop off flywheel if I brought it to them. No intentions of leaving powerhead with anyone. The flywheel nut is off just need to pull flywheel.

If that doesn’t work will have to buy the OMC tool and strap wrench.

Powerhead is totally disassembled. Rings all bad, Singular groove in both cylinder walls, kind of more like a flat spot than a groove. One piston has similar groove/flat spot. Crank looks good. Pictures won’t show much as it’s hard to show cylinder walls, but will try to post later.

That said, worth fixing or not? Not sure if a hone would take out flat spot in cylinder walls. Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks. Upon further review the pistons and cylinder walls are badly scored. I think it might make more sense to find a good powerhead vs cost to machine the existing powerhead for a rebore plus parts. Thoughts?

If you can find one '89 and newer, the t.stat will be located at the top of the head -- far more convenient location.

Laings is a good source here in New York. Call them if interested in that or similar powerheads at that price. There may be other options available.

It appears one party thought it was a good deal.

That was me...I bought it! Now the real question is do I re ring this new to me powerhead or just lap the head to resurface And replace Thermostat and exposed gaskets in the process of slapping it back together? seller claimed 90 psi on both cylinders. What is max compression on these..110?

I am going to also replace water pump assy and lower unit oil.

Thanks to all for the inputs I really appreciate the advice.
