2017 Mercruiser 3.0L Chirping Noise

Hello,

I've noticed a few issues with my boat engine.

It's a Mercruiser 3.0L 2017 with about 60 hours since it was put in the boat.

One of the quicksilver rebuilds - https://www.quicksilver-products.com/marine/complete-engines/alpha-sterndrives/

I've noticed that it's leaking oil from one of the hoses coming off the oil filter - See photo

Also there's some green (drive line fluid?) on the top of the engine block where the hose from the air filter thing comes off into the engine - see photo

And finally there seems to be a chirping noise coming from the front of the engine. I'm guessing belts of pulleys? surely they should be okay as they were replaced. video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baX-TR5blgI&feature=youtu.be

Would appreciate advice on what these things could be.

first, tighten the oil line

second, clean your motor, that is engine oil residue from blow by coming out the corrugated tube.

Try an air craft mechanic trick to fix the oil leak, called triple torque. Loosen a little, tighten, loosen then tighten 3 times. What is happening is the metal is heating up from friction.

The squeak sounds a little more like a rattle. Look at the exhaust flappers, the dust cover on the lower bell housing

The oil line already seems very tight when i tried to tighten. Will use a bigger wrench.

Is it normal for that amount of blow by? Will give it a good clean.

Put the drive down, that's your U joints banging around and may be damaging your drive boot

never ever ever run your drive that high

thats your u-joints eating themselves, the boot and the housing

only run your drive in the -7 to +7 degree range (below the trim limit). never run it in the trailer mode.

Oh no! Wasn't sure it needed to be trimmed down. haven't ran it more than 20 minutes tilted up so hopefully no damage.

time to pull the drive and inspect the bellows and u-joints

Lesson learnt - I'm very very appreciative for the advice!

Saved me a huge repair bill no doubt.

So that noise was most likely me destroying the u-joints?

I'm fairly confident I can hear the noise still with the engine trimmed down as I'm operating it at normal speeds in the water.

It sounds like a high pitch noise from a belt/pulley.

Will report back later today.

Pull the belts and rotate the pulleys and feel for roughness.
If its good, pull drive to inspect and run motor with hose connected at thermostat housing to see its its still there
