Hi all,

I’m living near Baltimore and I’ve come into possession of a 1964 Starcraft Starchief. It was sitting in my buddy’s uncles back yard for nearly 20 years. The hull is solid, and she has great bones. She came into my possession about 2.5 years ago. I took my time cleaning out the leaves and dirt, and I had to find a new motor (1983 Johnson 90hp). The transom has been replaced a year prior, but the decking was rotted and had to be replaced. I cut a new deck and replaced all of the electrical and decided that this was enough so far. We launched her and .... she floated!!! Quite well, no leaks. We had a few false starts. It turned out the motor needed a rebuilt carb, new fuel pump and a couple of gaskets. Then we had one great day on the bay before I decided I was going to try to make her pretty. I’ve since gutted the boat, re-riveted the deck supports, and nearly stripped all of the paint. My plan is to repaint the hull with rustoleum below the waterline, keep it bare (with a clear coat) above the waterline ( I like the look of bare aluminum), paint the topside and inside the cabin with marine aluminum paint, and rebuild the decking. Anyone who has had experience with these boats, I would love to hear your story! I’m posting here to share my journey and also in the hopes that I might find some folks who would be willing to share their stories and possibly some advice along the way. Thanks for reading :) pictures next ...

Hi, My son and I are restoring the same boat!! Question, for the transom, the wood lays on the inside, is there any wood on the outside? Or just the aluminum?? Also, were you able to find any literature on this boat? Thanks,
Peter
