I plan to use this motor in saltwater and I am concerned about flushing. Can I use the "muffs" on this particular motor or is there another way to flush it?

:welcome: to iBoats . . .

The engine will actually be fine in salt water. I'm not sure where the water pic-ups are located, but muffs generally don't work for small outboards.

You can run the engine in a barrel/trash can to flush it.

At the end of the season I run my small outboards in a smaller bucket with a solution of salt-away and water to clean things out.

iBoats probably has it (good idea to support the forum sponsor). Failing that, probably that online source that has a large river named after it :).

If the motor is new to you, there may be some salt build up that can be harder to remove -- could involve removing the head and running a flexible blade of some sort around the cylinders. If operating temps are normal, just maintain with freshwater flushing (salt-away if you wish -- added insurance against corrosion).

If you have significant build-up, then another product (Barnacle Buster) might be something to try.

My Mercury 7.5 had a calcium build-up in the 'flush' adapter that was so bad, I had to drill it out. Normally, with annual treatment, things would not get all that bad.

No you cannot use muffs ..

Run it in a barrel of water which be deep enough to fully submerge the water pump

Thanks to all who replied. I need to find a flushing/run barrel. Any ideas on where to look?

I looked in the garage and found 3 barrels. A couple of them were partially filled with trash, but there was still an empty one for me to use :thumb:
