1973 evinrude 60073d blowing main fuse

Gday all
Have aproblem with the main fuse at the engine blowing when i turn ignition on
Gearbox not bolted up yet after rebuild so hydroelectric shift wires disconnected.
When the shift selector wires are not connected at throttle remote the engine will start ok.
Have checked the ohms on everything and all ok
Have checked the volts on ignition switch all ok
Please any suggestions

Your motor is a 1970 model.-----There was no hydro-electric shift 60 HP in 1973 model year.------Need to find the short circuit in the shift wires.

I was going by the numbers on the id ,serial plate.60073d
This engine is a triumph with electronic ignition if that is any help.
The short only came into play when i removed the gearbox.so as you can understand its alittle bit curious

??----Your motor is a 1970 model !----I have more than one example of this 3 cylinder motor for parts too.

Disconnected shift wires at the motor shorting to ground???

Will keep the parts in mind.
Have found the problem with the short
Someone tightened the cowling bolt onto wires crushing them

The only other circuit on the cranking battery is the depth finder subwaylistens, bilge pump, and running lights. All wiring is new and all connections are tight. Tonight I will inspect the switches in the shifter.

???? Are we talking a out the same motor here?
