Gday all
After alot of replaced parts and time spent,im now seriously thinking of a rebuild.
My engine is 1970 60hp 60073D electric shift
Rebuilt gearbox
Rebuilt carbs
New plugs,coil,
I did a compression check after all this was done
No 1.......65psi
No 2........75psi
No 3........70psi
The distributor cap has a few grooves and marks inside that are deep
The rotor has like a crunchy ring that looks like burn around the same area as the ignite point,
The distributor also has a bubble and slight melt on the inside going from the coil wire point all the way around.
At this stage to replace with another engine later model in Australia would cost approximately
$4500.
Am I better off rebuilding or replacing
Cheers

First step is to make sure you test gauge is good.---I do not believe a motor like that could be running with numbers like that !!------Compression should be around 140 PSI.------Not an easy decision on rebuilding..----There might be someone local to you with a stash of parts.-------Too bad you are so far away as I have many new / used parts for that motor.----Rebuilt powerhead with new pistons that has been on the shelf for 25+ years too.

Thanks mate
Will check the gauge.
And unfortunately Im a few klm/mls from you.
It is very difficult finding parts in Australia for these motors,
Cheers
