Hello. I have an 1987 30 hp Johnson. Charging volt is high, up to 18,5 volt now at normal high rews. I have the original rectifier 3 phase. Does any know if the CDI unit is a good replacement to get better regulation? Add an pitchure below.

A rectifier does not regulate voltage.----Not an expensive part so give the cdi unit a try.

what problems did this create sudddenly ??

if handy with a VOM you can probably test the 3 diodes . A 3 phase rectifiers is basically 3 diodes with outputs going to the RED lead

Did you measure the voltage on the connected battery posts or are you seeing this on a depth sounder or similar device shutting down for over voltage protection ?
how's the battery ? new old boiling dry ....?

Thanks for answer. I do know a rectifier does not regulate the voltage, CDI says that their bolt on recifter also have voltage regulation. Normally I think then the regulator is often bigger and have fins to get away the heat. I am thinking as long as the regulator is for an 3 phase and for 12 volt, I can use many diffrent types. Just have to mount it a good place and good grounding. Any other ideas?
Sorry for my writing, live in Norway 🇳🇴🛳😎
Here is an link to what CDI say about their product: https://www.cdielectronics.com/blog/regulated-rectifier/

The rice of voltage is normal when only the original recifter. The battery is the regulation. Problem is bigger when there are no consumption. I only use battery for a bilge pump and led lanterns when dark. If I have a bigger battery and the older type battery, lead battery you can afterfill with water problem is smaller.

So it appears that the CDI unit is more than a simple rectifier.----Problem solved.

The 153-1778 pictured is not a regulated rectifier. Regulated rectifiers are identified by a 193-xxxx prefix. Not all models are available in regulated version.

Thanks for information, I checked and it is like you say. I will buy an regulator for an MC and try that
