Gday all
Just a quick question
Can I swap my 1970 60hp 60073D 3cyl ignition with a 1974 cdi ignition
Can get a donor motor so it has everthing on it
If it can be done is there anything i need to do
Cheers

The first step would be to check position of flywheel key relative to TDC on the 2 crankshafts.

Gday mate
Thankyou for the reply. Absolutely will do that.the crankshaft part numbers are different but i will check the keyway as everything else should bolt on directly. It would be nice if someone has done this before and could give an exact recommendation as i have to drive 400klm to pick up donor motor
Cheers

Well ok, I agree, question is will the flywheel work. Next question is will the timer base and stator attach to the crankcase top. Will the electrical bracket holding the coils, power pack, etc work? If you can get past those hurdles, I suppose you MIGHT be able to swap everything over, even including the wiring harness.

No, I haven't attempted to do it. Nobody in this part of the world would stand for the cost.

It certainly is a better system if you can do it.

Thanks mate
Well I will pick this power head up and cross fingers and toes
Looking at the schematics of a 74 model and 70 model the block at the timer base is identical bolt pattern. The only issue possibly is crank at flywheel and notch where the rotor sits.
Only time will tell so will know by the weekend

If the top of block is machined enough that the timer base and bushing fit and crankshaft nose is long enough it may work

Im definitely hoping
Everything looks identical on the block and the only difference is the crank where the drive shaft spline goes which wont bother me.
Will see what happens
Cheers mate

Driveshaft splines are the same !
Hey mate
Well it can be done but the only part that goes straight on is the trigger.
Flywheel would need keyway moved, posts for the stator are out by quite a bit, and advance stop mound would need taken off oh and another starter motor.
So all in all a failed attempt.
So 875klm later and 150 bucks gone I'm now going to come up with plan c
Thankyou for all your info and messages
