1982 16 Foot Starcraft SS Transom Rebuild

My 1982 16 foot Starcraft SS is tucked away in remote storage until April so I can measure anything.

I want to do the transom in April and have been planning what I need. I am trying to se if I can afford Coosa board but might have to go with Marine Plywood based on cost. It looks like I need to a 3/4 inch sheet.

Do you think I can get away with a half sheet of 3/4 or would I need a full sheet to complete the transom?

Half a sheet would be 2 layers of 2ft X 4ft, not nearly long enough. Cut the other way it'd be 2 layers 1ft X 8ft, not nearly wide enough.

Can you even buy a half sheet of marine?

Hint, many (most?) use well sealed exterior plywood, not marine. MDO is a good substitute as well, and was easier for me to source locally, had to order it amd it was @2/3rd or less the cost of marine I couldn't even order locally. It had to be ordered online and shipping 4X8 plywood gets pricey. Exterior ply is less then half the cost of marine, but there are tradeoffs.... tradeoffs diacussed in many many topics....

The lack of marine is why I was considering Coosa since I would have to order both anyway.

Not MDF, thats complete carp.

Does anyone have (or seen) a reference that indicates that MDO is suitable for STRUCTURAL uses? I saw none with a quick check.

I dont see MDO listed as a plywood sold at Home Depot online.

A full sheet of 3/4 BCX, TightBond III glue, and your pick of sealer. No need to go with Marine Grade or Coosa unless you just want to spend the extra money. A properly sealed and well kept Transom will have a long life.
